The Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2. OTA is finally officially available for Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners. If you didn’t have root, or just preferred to wait for something official, then you will wait no more.
The 4.2.2 update brings plenty of goodies such as Photosphere, Lock Screen Widgets and Quick Settings Toggles. Many thought that the Verizon GNex would never see an official 4.2.2 update, so this really will make its users happy. Enjoy flashing the OTA!!
Apple has just released iOS 6.1.3, which primarily fixes the Passcode Bypass Bug, that was present in the previous version. Besides the Passcode bug, which allowed access to the Phone app even when the screen was locked, the update also brings improvements to the Maps app in Japan.
The update also reportedly patches some of the vulnerabilities required to jailbreak the OS. The update is currently available as an Over the Air update and can be downloaded through iTunes as well.
The LG Optimus Vu 2, at least for models of this smartphone in South Korea, will finally be on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, after arriving with just Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right out of the box when it was launched, quite unlike its rival, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that already had Jelly Bean in tow.
Someone must have declared it Google TV Update Week without telling us: just days after a Vizio Co-Star upgrade, Sony’s NSZ-GS7 Internet Player is getting its own tune-up. The Sony update parallels its Vizio counterpart in focusing mostly on the features from the fall 2012 Google TV revamp, including PrimeTime and the updated YouTube app. Viewers pining for Amazon VOD access can also grab its app through Google Play. Sony mostly claims an edge over Vizio through its support for the equally new voice search feature: owners just have to chat with Sony’s remote to get things done, instead of leaning on phone or tablet control. However GS7 owners plan to steer their TVs, they’ll just need to check for a software update in the days ahead to rejuvenate their set-top boxes.
Shortly after releasing a Java update to fix a vulnerability that allowed hackers to access the computers of Apple employees, Apple released iTunes version 11.0.2.
The update offers a Composers view for music, bug fixes, and enhanced responsiveness when accessing large playlists. It also offers a fix for an error that prevented purchases from showing up in the library.
The 54.2 MB update is available through the Mac App Store and it can also be downloaded from Apple’s support website.
iTunes 11 was originally released in November of 2012, with a major redesign of the store, improved search, a simplified MiniPlayer, and new iCloud enhancements. iTunes was previously updated to version 11.0.1 in December, fixing bugs with iCloud and iTunes Match.
In line with rumours from last week, Apple has just released the iOS 6.1.2 update, which addresses a Microsoft Exchange bug. Users can update their devices to iOS 6.1.2 Over the Air or via iTunes.
Federico Viticci of MacStories points out that the update appears iOS 6.1.2 also fixes the passcode bug that was discovered last week (by following the steps to reproduce the old bug, the iPhone now simply gives a black screen/keypad instead of jumping to Phone/Contacts).
