When I last wrote about Invoxia’s AudiOffice, I had one complaint… its lack of Lightning support for modern iOS devices. Fortunately, its new device fixes this. I actually had another minor complaint—its name, which led me to joke that it was an accessory for Audi automobiles! In the latest version, the mixed-case name is gone, now simply called Audioffice ($299).
The newer Audioffice is an elegant accessory, with a companion app, invoxia (free) that turns your iPhone, iPad, or Android device into a full function conference room speakerphone. You also can use internal and alternative apps like FaceTime, Skype, etc.
The release of the HTC Droid DNA heralded a new age for smartphones. Now in 2013 every phone is required to have a 1080p screen and a quad-core processor inorder to be considered a premium flagship product. As with all high-end products you are expected to pay a pretty penny for the device such as the HTC One and Sony Xperia Z which both cost around $750. Well Neo is going to turn the market on its head with the release of the Neo N003, while we did hear whispers of the device we didn’t have any real information on the pricing until now.
Neo has announced that the Neo N003 will not only feature a 5 inch 1080p screen, making it the rival of all the new 5 inch phones announced during CES, but also a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1 GB of RAM, 13 megapixel rear camera and a 3000mAh battery, which basically makes it the equal of any phone out there…on paper at least…
The reason why we doubt the performance of the new Neo N003 is its price tag of 899 RMB ($145 USD) and a premium version priced as 1499 RMB ($241 USD). With that pricing the Neo isn’t in the same price bracket with phones such as the HTC One and Sony Xperiz Z, but is being sold at a price of a Galaxy Ace and other low-end devices. Unfortunately Neo only has plans to release the phone in China, but if you really want to get your hands on one you could always import the phone and with shipping the price will still be less than half of what you play for other phones with similar hardware, but you may run into compatibility issues.
The Neo N003 will be sporting a MediaTek quad-core, but despite the number of cores and the 1.3 GHz clock speed don’t expect world breaking performance, current benchmarks place it more in league with older dual-core designs. The SoC is listed as the MediaTek MT6589, which doesn’t use a A9 or A15 based ARM architecture of its 1080p rivals, but uses A7 cores, which are older, but more energy efficient than the A9 and A15 designs. There are other chips that use the A7 cores, such as the Exynos 5 and other big.LITTLE chipsets, but in chipsets that use ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture the A7 cores are used as power saving, low performance cores and are supplemented by high-performance A15s. That means the Neo N0003 will never have more performance than a current flagship stuck in battery conversation mode, but if you consider the large 3000mAh battery paired with what should be a highly efficient processor along with the incredibly low price tag, this still might be the bargin of the century.
